Go Carterton’s is delighted to partner with Wai Art for the Children’s Art Competition, celebrating this year’s theme: “SPACE”.
For many years, Wai Art has been dedicated to helping, supporting, and encouraging local artists—and what better way to do that than to start when you are young? This special competition invites children to explore the wonders of space through creativity, colour, and imagination.
The competition connects directly with the annual Wai Art Show, an iconic event on the Wairarapa arts calendar. Each year, the show fills quickly when applications open, drawing thousands of visitors to the Wairarapa Events Centre. Running from Friday 12 September to Sunday 14 September, the show offers visitors the chance to admire and purchase artworks, and to meet many of our talented artists from across the region and beyond.
This year’s show will feature over 100 panels filled with art, and we’re especially excited to make space for Carterton’s young artists. Wai Art encourages students to enter the competition and experience the thrill of having their work displayed alongside established creators.
To make the event even more inspiring, two well-known local artists have been invited to judge the entries. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children to showcase their vision of space and to receive recognition from experienced mentors.
Calling all young artists: pick up your brushes, pencils, or pastels, and let your imagination fly to space. Who knows? Your vision of the universe could shine brightly at Carterton Space Week!
