Travel from the Wairarapa to the edge of the observable universe in this immersive guided tour of space. Using NASA’s OpenSpace visualisation software, we explore the planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies and cosmic structures that make up our universe.
Unlike a traditional planetarium show, every journey is live. We can follow current space missions, visit newly discovered objects, and even travel to some of the star clusters, nebulae and galaxies visible through the telescopes at Star Safari Observatory. Many of these objects have been added to our software by Sam after observing them through the telescope, creating a unique connection between what visitors see through the telescope at Star Safari and where those objects exist in the universe.
Presented on the giant screen at the Carterton Events Centre, this experience combines real astronomical data, scientific storytelling and audience interaction to reveal the scale, beauty and wonder of the cosmos. Last year’s presentation attracted nearly 100 people and became one of the highlights of Carterton Space Week.
Suitable for all ages.
