World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.
Carterton Space Week is organised by Go-Carterton, Carterton’s Business Association
Celebrate a week of science, imagination, and community as Carterton joins the global World Space Week from 12–18 September 2025. This year’s theme, Living in Space, comes to life across the Wairarapa with talks, workshops, films, school programmes, and hands-on activities for all ages. From rockets and planetarium shows to world-class speakers and stargazing inspiration, Carterton Space Week is your invitation to explore our place in the cosmos.
Every year, for one week in October, the globe unites in celebrating World Space Week, an international observance established by the United Nations in 1999 to commemorate the launch of Sputnik 1, the first human-made satellite, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty.
This event serves as an important reminder of the marvels of space exploration and its profound impact on our lives, shaping everything from our understanding of the universe to the technology in our pockets.
