Join us for a special community screening of the award-winning film October Sky as we celebrate World Space Week’s 2026 theme, Rocket Revolution.
Inspired by the true story of Homer Hickam, October Sky follows one teenager’s dream of building rockets and reaching for the stars, a dream that transforms his future and inspires those around him.
From backyard experiments to big dreams, this is the perfect film for Rocket Revolution: a story about curiosity, resilience, great teachers, and the belief that extraordinary journeys often begin in ordinary places.
Suitable for families, students, space enthusiasts, teachers, and anyone who loves a true story about big dreams starting in small places.
Every Ticket Gives Back
Every $10 ticket purchased for Movie Night: October Sky will be donated to two local community organisations.
On arrival, you’ll receive a voting token to place in one of two donation rockets:
The Carterton Village
Supporting members of our community through connection, care and practical assistance.
Wairarapa Youth Charitable Trust
Helping young people across the Wairarapa discover opportunities, build confidence and reach their potential.
At the end of the evening we’ll count the votes and divide the funds according to the community’s choice.
Come for an inspiring film. Leave knowing you’ve helped make a difference close to home.
Presented in partnership with Sunset Cinema Carterton. Volunteers from the Carterton Film Society will be helping make the evening possible through baking, hospitality and community support.
Bring your whānau, bring a friend, and help us fill the room for a good cause.
