Located on a ridge between Carterton and Martinborough, Star Safari Observatory provides visitors with access to some of the darkest and most accessible night skies in New Zealand. The observatory houses a wide range of telescopes, including large instruments capable of revealing galaxies, nebulae and star clusters in remarkable detail. Experiences combine telescope observing with astronomy interpretation, helping visitors understand not only what they are seeing, but where they are in the universe. The observatory also supports education programmes, dark sky initiatives and Carterton Space Week.
Children aged 15 and under attend free when accompanied by an adult.
